01An introduction
When it is convenient, we'll have a brief phone call so I can introduce myself and arrange a time to meet. Wherever possible, I prefer to meet in person, and I'll come to wherever is most comfortable for you — your home, a coffee shop, community centre or, where appropriate, the funeral director's office.
02Your memories
I'll ask questions and spend time listening to your memories, stories and anecdotes. There's no right or wrong way to remember someone. Sometimes the smallest details can tell us the most.
You can share photographs, music, letters, memorabilia or anything else that helps me get to know the person you have lost.
03Shaping the ceremony
Together, we'll decide who else might like to speak, choose readings or poems, consider music and work out how you'd like the ceremony to flow. If you're not sure what you want, that's not a problem. I can make suggestions and help you make sense of all those thoughts and ideas that can feel overwhelming at such a difficult time.
04Making it feel right
I'll then write the eulogy and prepare the other elements of the ceremony and share them with you before the service. You'll have the opportunity to suggest changes and make sure that everything I say reflects the person you're remembering.
05On the day
My style is warm, personable, respectful, heartfelt and, where appropriate, humorous.
I want the people attending to recognise the person I'm talking about. To remember them, perhaps discover something new about them, and feel that their personality has filled the room for a little while.
