From stage to ceremony

Community has always
been at the heart of what I do.

The Glory pub frontage in East London

I grew up just outside the Medway Towns in North Kent before being seduced by the big cities of London, New York, and, of course, Birmingham. As a kid, I dreamed of being on the stage, but the flashing lights of the night clubs and raves of the 1990’s seduced me and I went on to forge my own un-usual theatrical career under the performance name ‘Jonny Woo’ as a cabaret, club and drag artist.

For almost 30 years I’ve been creating shows. I’ve made intimate solo performances, directed smaller group shows and produced large-scale varieties. I’m lucky that my work has taken me around the UK and the world, but the thing of which I’m most proud, is helping to build an LGBTQ+ performance community in East London through my venues The Glory and The Divine.

And through it all, I’ve been telling stories.

Community has always been at the heart of what I do. I love helping people find themselves. I love watching people grow. I love hearing people’s stories and helping them find the extra-ordinary in the ordinary.

“Through it all, I’ve been telling stories.”

The moments that matter

Finding the extraordinary
in the ordinary.

This feels important when marking the big moments in our lives.

A wedding is about two people, their relationship and the life they are choosing to build together. A funeral is about remembering someone, making sense of a life and saying goodbye in a way that feels right and celebrates a life well lived.

Everybody has a good story to share. Let me help you share yours.

I enjoy listening to people’s stories. I love piecing together memories and discovering the details that make someone unique and finding the moments that make a room laugh, cry, smile and ultimately come together.

I don’t think any idea or dream you may have for the ‘special’ moment should be considered too difficult, silly or unrealistic. With care, imagination and a little creativity we can create ceremonies that feel authentic, meaningful and memorable.

After 30 years of standing on stages, entertaining and bringing people together, I’ve learned how powerful a good story can be.

Now I want to use those skills to help you tell yours.
